Professor Mei-Ling Hsu from the Department of Journalism and Professor Ru-Shou Chen from the Department of Radio and Television will be retiring this semester. Representing the College of Communication, Dean Hsiu-Hui Sun expressed her sincere gratitude during the college affairs meeting, acknowledging the two professors’ years of dedication and contributions to teaching, research, and service.
During her speech, Dean Sun congratulated the two diligent and much-loved professors on their honourable retirement with a touch of humour. She noted that they will finally be able to "wake up naturally" and "binge-watch television programmes to their heart's content," embracing a carefree and boundless retired life, adding with a laugh that she is rather envious. The Dean also warmly invited both professors to return to the College for a cup of coffee and a catch-up with staff and students once the new entrance coffee bar of the college is completed.
Professor Hsu shared her delight at retiring alongside Professor Chen. She mentioned that they have known each other since they were nineteen, making this shared milestone of retiring from NCCU in the exact same semester a particularly cherished bond. However, she chuckled and admitted that, as she still has students who have yet to complete their dissertations and her office is not yet fully packed up, it will not truly feel like retirement until her current tasks are completely wrapped up.
Professor Chen jokingly remarked that he originally taught at the Department of Motion Pictures at the National Taiwan University of Arts before joining NCCU in 2006. Having served here for twenty years, he expressed his immense gratitude to NCCU for "taking him in," as well as to the College for its steadfast support and companionship over the years.
The College of Communication extends its deepest thanks to both professors for their dedication during their time at NCCU, and wishes them a fulfilling, expansive, and carefree new chapter in their retirement.
