The New Face of Far-Right Propaganda: Generative AI and Online Influence

Date: 04.06.2026 (Thursday)

Time: 1900-2100

Venue: Room 401, Da-Yong Building, National Chengchi University(政治大學大勇樓401教室)

Speaker: Anna Hiller (Consultant Research Analyst, Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD) UK)

*This talk will be conducted in English.

Far-right content online is no longer limited to “traditional” propaganda. With the help of generative AI, deceptively realistic songs, memes, and influencer profiles are being created to specifically appeal to young audiences. In Germany, far-right actors are also using these technologies strategically to spread their messages quickly, professionally, and in ways tailored to specific target groups.

In this session, Anna Hiller will present key findings from a recent study by the Institute for Strategic Dialogue (ISD). The research highlights how far-right actors in Germany, including those aligned with the Alternative for Germany (AfD), are leveraging AI to amplify harmful narratives online using generative AI - often in subtle and hard-to-detect ways. Additionally, she will touch on more recent developments, such as the increased use of AI-generated influencers in other political systems like the US and UK.

During the session, Anna Hiller will:

  • provide a clear and accessible overview of current developments in AI and far-right online strategies

  • share concrete examples of AI-generated content and its use in extremist communication

  • outline key insights from the study and their broader implications

  • reflect on current challenges in regulating such content, including gaps in the implementation of the Digital Services Act (DSA)

Organized by College of Communication, National Chengchi University
